The title-page verso states "This book is produced in complete conformity with the authorised economy standards". This book was issued under the War Economy scheme, before that title was adopted. Books from the later phase have a lion logo above a declaration which is worded differently. The scheme ran from 1942 to 1946. The author's foreword is dated 1944". In this new book he answers those who have asked, 'Where and how can I obtain good fishing?' by emphasising the value of well regulated club and association fishing, and shows his readers, by diary extracts, that modest but interesting sport can be obtained at low cost". Anecdotes, and a fishing diary, largely concerning trout, pike and salmon.
