This is a useful owner's guide to the racing Greyhound covering all aspects of care, management and training. "The authors consider the implications of owning a racing dog and place strong emphasis on the amount of time and care that the owner will have to give to his dog. In the introductory chapter they also discuss the pros and cons of rearing a puppy or buying a dog which is already racing. They then go on to describe how to rear a puppy and in this section consider such topics as accommodation, feeding and exercise. Elementary schooling is covered and advice given on professional schooling. There is plenty of information about caring for the adult dog and the topics covered include feeding, grooming, training and exercise. The authors also write about injuries and how to cope with them. Breeding is covered in some detail and among the points covered are choice of stud dogs, bloodlines, whelping and management of the bitch and her puppies. Because this book is concerned with the racing greyhound there is a chapter on the history of greyhound racing and famous racing dogs. The pedigrees of many of the most famous dogs are given." Chapters include:- The pros and cons of owning a racing greyhound; Rearing puppies; Schooling; Training; Health and welfare; Breeding; Stud dogs and bloodlines; The racing scene; Hints and tips. Appendices include:- Food products and diet sheets; Greyhound racing tracks; Useful addresses, treatments and therapies; Bloodlines.
