DESERT HAWKING II. By Harry McElroy.

AN APPROVED TREATISE ON HAWKS AND HAWKING. By Edmund Bert. London 1619. Thames Valley Press facsimile edition.

(1619) 1973 facsimile edition. 8vo (143 x 203mm). Ppxx,109. Engraved title-page vignette. Black cloth, spine titled in silver-gilt.

A facsimile reprint of the original 1619 treatise with a new introduction by Phillip Glasier. Nb. The ISBN is given on the title-page verso as 0090029406X. This is incorrect, the correct ISBN is 0900294086, as printed on the front dust-wrapper flap. Gossard notes "In a curious use in a book devoted to short-winged hawks, the front of the dust jacket depicts an adult peregrine in a Dutch hood tied to a limb, a copy of an engraving by G.E. Lodge in 1980." Also, the dust-wrapper (front panel and spine) indicate the first edition as being 1615 when in actual fact it was 1619. The publishers have also managed to mis-spell Phillip Glasier's forename. However, despite these minor bibliographical errors this is a good facsimile edition of a useful and very scarce book.
