The record of trips to Europe, especially the Balkans and Spain, photographing and collecting birds. Despite mentioning the increasing rarity of many of his subjects, he went to great pains to procure great numbers of specimens of eagles, vultures, owls and other birds. In fact he seems to have shot most of the birds he saw - usually after photographing them. The splendid illustrated binding shows the author carrying his rifle, and with a dead black vulture over his shoulder.
