The author was a Londoner and keen naturalist and student of bird life who moved to Wales in order to study its birds more closely. In this book he recounts his observations. A table at the rear gives a dated check list of all the bird species observed by the author between March and the end of June 1902. The book contains many good photographs, chiefly of birds' nests and eggs, by Oliver G. Pike. This second printing of 1904 appeared in green buckram, printed with a colour engraving of a bird and insects.
