BRITISH SPORTS AND PASTIMES. Edited by Anthony Trollope.

(1868) undated re-issue. Small 8vo (130 x 200mm). Ppiv,322. Not illustrated. Green pebbled cloth, spine titled in gilt, blind-rules to upper board. The publisher's imprint at the foot of the spine is Daldy, Isbister and Co.

A collection of eight pieces on horse-racing, hunting, shooting, fishing, yachting, rowing, alpine climbing and cricket. All had previously been published in a journal that Trollope edited - "Saint Paul's Magazine." Trollope himself wrote the piece "On hunting." The author of the article "On Fishing" is not named, either here or in the original article. However he was identified as James Glass BERTRAM in the Publisher's Circular, 1868, and elsewhere. Bertram's rather wordy discourse is, as one might expect, largely about salmon and trout fishing in Scotland.
