The third volume in a lavish series of books by and about leading sportsmen of the day. The first 172 pages are on big game hunting; the following 166 pages are concerned with angling. There are a further 192 pages of short biographies of 186 "Celebrities With The Rifle," and 60 pages on 47 noted anglers, "Sportsmen With The Rod," most of which include a portrait photograph of the subject. Chapters on big game hunting by F.C. Selous, James Sutherland, J.C.B. Statham, H. Frank Wallace, J. Turner-Turner, C.R.E. Radclyffe, C. Phillipps-Wolley and others. Chapters on angling by R.B. Marston, F.G. Morgan, Col. R.F. Meysey-Thompson, Cecil Braithwaite, John Holt Schooling, J. Turner-Turner, J.C. Rokeby-Hallen, Rev. H.T. Adams, F.G. Richmond, Arthur R. Price and F.G. Aflalo. Brief biographies, usually with a portrait, of "Celebrities with the rifle" and "Sportsmen with the rod." This were mostly penned by the individual concerned and were presumably offered as an incentive to subscribe to the series. This is volume 3 in a 13-volume series (though bookseller Peter Harrington lists a set of 16 works in 17 volumes).
