CASTING AT THE SUN. By Christopher Yates. With illustrations in colour from original line drawings by Clare Hatcher. Medlar Press Edition.
(1986) 1995 new edition. Small 8vo (150 x 215mm). Ppvii,280. Coloured illustrations by Clare Hatcher. Olive cloth with tipped-on illustration, spine and upper board titled in gilt and black. Edition limited to 1497 numbered copies.
Chris Yates' modern classic; one of the most collectible of modern angling books. This is a copy of the Medlar Press limited edition, now out-of-print. This edition was limited to 1497 numbered copies of which 137 were bound in leather, the remaining copies bound in cloth. This is a copy of the cloth-bound issue. A record of the author's early days right through to his capture of the record carp from Redmire Pool. "I have hardly changed anything in this edition, though, as I said, it might have benefitted from a few lost fish. Perversely, all I've really done is to actually add more carp. The additional chapter (The Way Home) was one that continued the events recounted in The Bell at Byton (chapter XII), but which I didn't include in the original book because I felt it lessened the sublime anti-climax of the story. Perhaps it is a sign of impending senility, but I now feel happier about relating the untold ending." (From the foreword to this 1995 2nd edition).
