CATCHING BIG TROUT. By Alan Pearson.
1979 1st edition. Hardback issue. 8vo (142 x 222mm). Pp158. Colour frontispiece of flies, b/w photographs, illustrations. Green boards, spine titled in silver-gilt.
A good introduction to catching big trout from small stillwaters such as Avington. The author was a well-known figure in the early days of small-water / big-fish trout fishing, and held several records. Some of the record fish certificates are illustrated here, as are some of the trout. Oddly, one large rainbow, easily identified by markings, is photographed on three different pages throughout the book and described as being 16, 17 3/4, and 18 pounds, implying that they were three different fish. Funny that! Chapters include: Tactics; General comment on flies; Nymphs and bugs; Dry flies; Lures; Leaders; Rods; Lines; Fly reels and other accessories; Records and other matters; Big trout of other species.
