CHARLES COTTON AND HIS RIVER. By Gerald G.P. Heywood.

1928 1st edition. 4to (220 x 285mm). Ppix,191. Illustrated with 13 full-page plates, tipped-in chapter headings and other illustrations, and a fold-out map, all by the author, printed in green. Nicely rebound.

Charles Cotton's work, largely on flyfishing, How To Angle For A Trout Or Grayling In A Clear Stream, formed the second part of the fifth (1676) and subsequent editions of Walton's Compleat Angler. He was born, and lived for most of his life, in Beresford Dale on the River Dove in Derbyshire. This is an appreciation and commentary on Cotton, his life and surroundings, his poetry, his writing and his fishing.
