DIE MINNESINGER IN BILDERN DER MANESSISCHEN HANDSCHRIFT. Insel-Buecherei No. 450. By Hans Naumann.

# "The Minnesingers in Pictures from The Codex Manesse." Minne singers were German troubadors who composed and performed songs of courtly love. This is a collection of illuminations from the Codex Manesse, each showing and individual singer. The pictures evidently contain references to their work, and some of these involve birds of prey. Plates with falconry or other bird interest are: King Conrad the Younger; Meister Sperrvogel - a master of bird-lime whose name is also his profession, with a pole full of birds; Heinrich von Veldeke; Walther von der Vogelweide; Werner von Teufen; Hartmann von Aue. Explanatory text by Hans Naumann appears after the plates.
