An essay on the history of the dog, followed by a fishing guidebook to North and Mid-Wales. Of the Dovey he has this to say: "Needless to say that during a fresh or spate the inns at Machynlleth, Cemaes Road, Cemmes and other stations are crowded with ardent anglers who meet with due reward according to their proficiency in the gentle art also, that of quitting the downy at abnormally early hours, for of all rivers in North Wales the Dovey affords the best exercise in the time honoured athletic pastime, yclept, running for a pool; if you are lucky enough to secure a good one, take my advice and stick to it all day". Of the "new" sport of saltwater flyfishing: "Good bass fishing with the fly is also a feature at Towyn at the mouth of the river, where it enters the sea, and these somewhat ungainly productions, supposed to be the most useful adjuncts to this art, with their red bodies, white and yellow wings, ephemerae of scorn to the salmon fishers, display their crude and vulgar proportions in the windows of almost every shop in the town". "A chatty guide book for anglers and tourists in the Principality."
