The story of Miles' hunt for the huge barbel of the Great Ouse, particularly on the Adams Mill and Kickles Farm stretches. The dust-wrapper illustration is by John Searl*. The first edition was an open edition of which the first 500 copies were signed and numbered by the illustrator and publisher, Tom O'Reilly. Later copies of the first edition were simply stated as "Over No. 500" and were not signed by O'Reilly. This copy is one of those un-numbered later copies.
