ERNEST CROSFIELD: HIS SALMON FLIES AND FISHING. Compiled and edited by Colin Innes. Angling Monographs Series Volume Eight. De luxe edition.
2017 1st edition. 8vo (165 x 242mm). Pp108. Colour and b/w photographs, illustrations. Dark green leather over oatmeal cloth, spine titled in gilt, green angler on cloth. Edition limited to 26 lettered copies, each signed by the author.
Ernest Morland Crosfield (1856-1925) was one of the most influential salmon anglers and fly-tyers of the early 1900s. Unfortunately, although he wrote a couple of articles and kept a detailed record of his catches in his game book, he never consolidated his thoughts into a book. Others thought highly enough of him to record his fishing and fly-tying methods, but this material is contained in a diverse range of publications, not all of it easily accessible. In this book Colin Innes has gathered together Crosfield's articles, together with published and unpublished articles written about him, and even provided pictures of salmon flies tied by the man himself. It will be a valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in the history of salmon fishing and fly-tying in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It will also provide the salmon fly-tyer who wants to tie the "Crosfield style" with ample instruction, importantly backed up with illustrations of what the finished fly should look like. This is the de luxe hardbound edition that is limited to only 26 lettered copies. There is also a standard edition of 250 copies.
