"This present volume is the first work to make substantial use of full-colour photography to reproduce faithfully both bird and habitat of every Australian bird. A considerable number of Australian birds have never been photographed, and others are feared to be extinct, not having been sighted for many years. For these species, suitable artistic representations have been obtained to fulfil the aim of this work. Over eighty percent of the illustrations are full-colour photographs and the balance is made up of illustrations from the major works listed above and also from present-day artists".
