FISHERMAN'S COUNTRY: DAYS IN NEW ZEALAND. By G.B. Hobbs.
1955 1st edition. 8vo (145 x 223mm). Pp224. B/w photograph plates, maps. Binding B. Red boards, spine titled in black.
Architect G.B. Hobbs was a New Zealander who moved to the south of England. Here he describes marvellous trout and salmon fishing in the wild parts of New Zealand and is able to make comparisons with the relatively tame fishing of his adopted country. He was a member of the London Flyfishers' Club and of the North Canterbury New Zealand Acclimatisation Society, and the brother of Derisley Francis Hobbs (1906-1963), a well-known fisheries scientist and author. Appendices give lists of the mayflies of New Zealand and J.C. Mottram's fly patterns designed to represent them.
