FISHING FOR LIFE. By Derrick Davenport. Designed and produced by Martin Mumby.
2010 1st edition. 8vo (160 x 240mm). Ppxvi,152. Colour and b/w photographs. Brown boards, upper board and spine titled in gilt. Edition limited to 250 cloth-bound copies.
"Derrick Davenport was born on the 15th of June 1921. He caught his first fish at about 2 years of age in a penny net, a three spined stickleback. At the time it was the most wondrous thing that existed and he rushed home with the obligatory jam-jar to show his Dad. At that moment a love was born, a love that persisted when other loves, throughout a long life, have died or mellowed. Since that day Derrick has travelled the world catching specimen fish of many species but is always happy to return home to his beloved Hampshire Avon where he enjoys nothing more than float fishing with 'pin and cane'. Make no mistake, Derrick is one of angling's most extraordinary characters, and admits he is lucky to be alive after flying and skiing stunts he has survived. The reason he has survived is because behind his slightly eccentric exterior lies a very intelligent, gifted and determined individual whose humble modesty endears him to all those that meet him". Produced in a limited edition of only 290 copies (the first 40 were bound in leather) it sold out very fast. The author sadly passed away just a few days before the books were delivered from the printers. With a foreword by Fred J. Taylor and an introduction by John Searl.
