Some consider Fly Fishing (1899) to be the best fishing book ever written. The volume deals with trout, sea trout and salmon. Grey places fishing for sea-trout on a pinnacle, and describes the greatness of salmon fishing. On trout, he was the first writer of importance on the dry-fly who really knew what the wet-fly meant. Although modest, he was an expert angler, and he detailed much that is useful and instructive. His prose is clear and vigorous - the book is a literary achievement of high order. The Flyfisher's Classic Library has chosen the first Haddon Hall Library edition of 1899. This edition has many an added bonus: delightful graphics by Arthur Rackham, illustrations by Jessie Macgregor and William Hyde, and the two beautiful colour plates of "Dry and Wet Flies" and "Salmon and Sea Trout Flies" from specimens supplied by Hardy of Alnwick. In 1930, Lord Grey added two chapters for Dent's new edition. These are included in the FFCL edition with engravings by Fitch Daglish. With a new Introduction by Jeremy Paxman. This edition combines the best features of the earlier editions and is the 1997 reprint of the 1992 Flyfisher's Classic Library edition.
