FLY FISHING. By Sir Edward Grey. The Haddon Hall Library. 1907 4th edition.

(1899) 1907 4th edition. Small 8vo (135 x 197mm). Ppxvi,276. 2 colour plates of flies, b/w plates by Macgregor and Hyde, vignettes, Arthur Rackham end-papers. Red cloth, gilt coat of arms to upper board, spine titled and decorated in gilt, top edge gilt.

This 1907 "fourth and cheaper edition," is in a slightly smaller format than the earlier editions, but still quite a handsome binding. "Some consider Fly Fishing (1899) to be the best fishing book ever written. The volume deals with trout, sea trout and salmon. Grey places fishing for sea trout on a pinnacle, and describes the greatness of salmon fishing. On trout, he was the first writer of importance on the dry-fly who really knew what the wet-fly meant. Although modest, he was an expert angler, and he detailed much that is useful and instructive. His prose is clear and vigorous - the book is a literary achievement of high order."
