HAIR-WING ATLANTIC SALMON FLIES. By Keith Fulsher and Charles Krom.
1981 1st edition. Large 4to (219 x 287mm). Pp181. Colour and b/w photographs. Blue cloth, spine titled in gilt, gilt salmon fly on upper board.
Long out-of-print and difficult to find. This first edition was limited to just 500 numbered copies. This copy, number 231, has been signed on the limitation page by both authors. "The main purpose of this book is to record pattern details for a great number of the excellent hair-wing Atlantic salmon flies that have been developed over the years since hair-wings were first originated. Techniques for converting classic salmon flies and basic trout wet flies into effective hair-wings have also been included. Although some books on Atlantic salmon fishing and fly tyings list a few hair-wing patterns, there has been no comprehensive treatment of the subject in the past. For this reason we hope fly tyers in general and [anglers] will find this publication to be a useful one. Chapters include: The origin and development of hair-wing Atlantic salmon wet flies; Basic hair-wing salmon flies and how to tie them; converting classic salmon patterns to hair-wings; Converting trout wet-flies to hair-wing salmon flies; The salmon, the tackle and the fishing techniques; Bucktails and tube flies; Pattern index. Appendices include: Basic hair-wings and their variations; Unnamed guide patterns; converted classic patterns; converted trout patterns; Selected bibliography. Our notes state that this edition was limited to 500 copies.
