HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN SPLIT CANE FISHING ROD: A MANUAL OF INSTRUCTION IN THE ART OF ROD MAKING FOR THE AMATEUR. By G. Lawton Moss, M.C., T.D., with a Foreword by Viscount Scarsdale of Kedleston. Second edition revised.

(1947) 1954 2nd edition, revised. 8vo (upright, as opposed to the landscape format of the first edition). (140 x 210mm). Ppii,53,i. Illustrated with a b/w frontispiece by the author (signed Paddy Moss) and b/w drawings. Grey cloth over stiff card, upper board titled in blue.

An interesting and useful book - by an amateur and for amateurs. "I do all my whippings sitting by the fire under the light of a table lamp." "During the period that has elapsed since writing the first edition of this book I have made upwards of fifty rods, salmon and trout fly rods and spinning rods. This experience has been learnt the hard way and the various methods now described have been tried and put to the test by myself and many others so that the amateur rod maker can rest assured that he is being taught by one who believes in practice rather than theory. Many rods made by me have been fished for ten years and any faults that occurred have been rectified and the experience gained has been incorporated in this edition. Some of the old methods given in the first edition have been deleted and new methods substituted and an alternative method is fully described for shaping the sections." (From the author's preface to this Second Edition).
