This is a nice collection of accounts of hunts followed on foot". They are intended to convey some of the impressions of the hunting-field as it appears to the follower on foot, and are records of many happy days spent by my two sisters and myself over field and furrow, 'neath the open sky, in a world where we may wander at will, as long as we are in the wake of the hunt. That much genuine pleasure and also a mild excitement may be obtained by following hounds on foot, I hope the ensuing pages will show. The initiated will gather the SKETCHES are for the most part true accounts of actual runs, principally with the York and Ainsty, the Badsworth and the Goathland Hunts. In some cases, fictitious names have been given to the coverts, neverthless, those who know these countries will be able to locate all the places mentioned, and some may remember the actual days and runs".
