Michael Brown began his working life with ICI's marketing department in London. Restlessness and sheer accident took him to Somerset where he fished for eels for a (pretty thin) living. Founding the firm of Brown and Forrest, elvers became his speciality, selling them on for stocking inland waters on the continent. This was accompanied in time by eel smoking and ultimately a restaurant. An interesting addition to the literature of both the eel and the life of the English countryside.
