A sporting memoir by T.R. Pattillo, a resident of Nova Scotia. This book was given "some little revision and [made] up into chapters" by R.B. Marston, editor of the Fishing Gazette, who provides a prefatory note. In an "unvarnished but bright, fresh, and straightforward narrative of his sport" the author describes moose calling, moose hunting on snow-shoes with dogs, goose and duck shooting, trout fishing, flyfishing for for salmon, the capture of a 600lb albacore or horse mackerel (bluefin tuna or tunny) in Nova Scotia, and sharks, dolphin-fish and "devil-fish" in the West Indies. River Medway, Bang's Falls, Rocky Falls, La Have river, Port Joli,Queen's County lakes, Derby Island, Fox Harbour and elsewhere. The last chapter describes "exciting occurrences on a West Indian voyage", aboard the brig Albion from Liverpool, Nova Scotia to Trinidad, with man-eating sharks, dolphins and others. A Canadian edition by William Briggs of Toronto followed in 1903.
