Published after the author's death, and compiled from the author's papers by Cosmo Innes, (Cosmo Nelson Innes, 1798-1874). The book is prefaced (in both editions) with a memoir of the author by C. Innes, and with an appendix to the memoir (by the author), Life At Rosehall. A month-by-month compilation of notes on sport and natural history in Moray between 1847 and 1853, based on the author's papers. The individual entries are lengthy, with detailed observations, particularly as to the habits and migrations of birds. "The last and best edition." (Coleby). The gilt shield device on the upper board of this, and several other St. John books, is a simplified version of the St. John family crest.
