The author's name is given as Kett by Westwood and Satchell who observe; "A series of eight letters, but evidently incomplete. The commencement of a new series of this magazine in the following year, with a different style of contribution, may account for the abrupt termination. Kett was drowned, while bathing, in 1825. He was perpetual curate of Hykeham, Lincolnshire, and was eminent as a scholar and divine. The soubriquet of 'Emily' Kett was acquired by the publication of a novel with that title in 1809". Letter I, angling (No.78, Vol.XIV); Letter II, on fish in general (same iss); Letter III, praise of the River Thames, angling for carp, description of the carp etc. (No.79); Letter IV, the barbel, directions to angle for barbel, sport in a thunderstorm, the diver etc. (same iss.). Letter V, the trout, an anecdote introductory to the description, various species and haunts of the trout (No.83). Letter VI, the subject of trout fishing continued, choicest baits, the minnow and the fly, remarks on artificial flies, anecdotes illustrative of the nature of the trout, approved method of dressing the trout (same iss.). Letter VII, the pike, sketch of Blenheim Lake, introductory, peculiarities, trolling, new method of trolling, useful directions, diverting method of catching pikes.
