A Victorian sporting novel, featuring all kinds of sport from North Norfolk trout fishing to trimmer-fishing for pike, trapping, poaching, gamekeeping. Two quite different gilt-decorated pictorial bindings exist. The illustration on Bindings A and B have an elaborate illustration of a duck-shooting scene with the words, PETER PENNILESS GAMEKEEPER AND GENTLEMAN. BY THE AUTHOR OF "THE SWAN AND HER CREW". It has been seen both in brown, red or blue cloth. The picture on Binding C is of eel-spearing from a rowing boat with the text PETER PENNILESS BY G. CHRISTOPHER DAVIES. ILLUSTRATED. It is in brown cloth, decorated in black, blue and gilt.
