QUEST FOR CARP. By Jack Hilton. First edition.

1972 1st edition. 8vo (140 x 222mm). Pp188. B/w photographs. Blue boards, spine titled in silver-gilt.

One of the carp-fishing classics. The story of Hilton's early years of carp fishing, half of the book is about Redmire Pool from 1968 to 1970. At the time of writing the author was the only angler in the UK to have caught three carp in excess of 30lbs and he went on, unfortunately just after the book's publication, to catch a forty-pound carp from Redmire, the same fish that Chris Yates caught at 51lb 8oz, a British record. "...a book of anecdote and atmosphere in which a fine angler mostly imparts knowledge in passing. Before suddenly turning his back on fishing for good, Jack became one of the most noted carp fishers..." (Coarse Angler, August 1979). Not long after writing the book, Jack Hilton gave up fishing after having closely studied the word of the Bible and deciding that it was "...against God's will."
