Younger's salmon fly patterns pre-date those of Scrope (1843), and represent the classic old Tweed flies. He died in 1860, shortly before this edition went to press. To the text of the first edition the publisher added the following: 1. A "Sketch of the Author's Life" by "a person who knew him intimately for many years during the later part of his life". 2. Two new chapters - on "Creeper Fishing" and "Stone-fly Fishing," "...the result of the experience and observation of a successful trout angler". 3". Some fresh hints on the nature of the salmon, and on conducting the salmon fisheries of the Tweed". A 27-page paper by Younger, published in Blackwood's "Journal of Agriculture," January, 1847. 4. A 30-page "Descriptive list of all the salmon rod-casts in the Tweed, including the names of the proprietors". 5. A 6-page "Descriptive list of the tributaries of the Tweed, for trout anglers". 6. A 2-page "Analysis of the Tweed Fishery Act as at present in force (Extracted from the Southern Counties' Register of 1860)".
