"The literature on Icelandic rivers is scarce. As Iceland is so well worth visiting it seems but just that a written description ...should be made available. ...In selecting the rivers to be included in the book, I have taken what I consider to be a fair average sample of the variety available; in all but one of them I had very good fishing. Perhaps it would have been fairer to have included one or two of the others where the results were not so fortunate... I have fished seventeen rivers in Iceland and have seen or, know by repute, many more. No river of the largest class has been included, partly because very large rivers are often dull water to fish, and partly because they seldom have individuality, no matter through what country they flow. ...I have included a short and incomplete chapter of odd notes on a few of the birds seen by the rivers. The subject of the birds of Iceland requires a volume to itself ...The object ...is merely to whet the appetite of the angling naturalist". Chapters include: First visit to Iceland; The farms you stay in; Incidents of travel to rivers of Iceland; The Straumfjardara; The Vididalsa; The Vatnsdalsa; Laxa at Blonduos; Laxa at Birtingaholt; The burns of Iceland; The lakes of Iceland; Salmon lies; Char in Iceland; Icelandic anglers; Icelandic gillies; Tackle for Iceland; Icelandic weather; On taking a river in Iceland; Birds of the rivers; Some odd notes; The changing Iceland scene".
