* The twelve hand-coloured plates are all present but are bound out of order. The first edition (1861) was titled "Halcyon: or rod fishing with fly, minnow and worm". "The author, a skilful fly-dresser and angler, has but one hand". (Westwood and Satchell). The author, secretary of a north-of-England angling club, includes the dressings of 211 trout fly patterns and 42 salmon flies.
