(1885) 1995 1st edition thus. De luxe issue. 8vo (160 x 240mm). Ppiv,95. B/w illustrations. Fully bound in blue Nigerian goatskin, all edges gilt, two raised bands and gilt titles to spine.

A handsomely bound de luxe edition of 55 copies with fly. First published in the Badminton Library volume on Salmon and Trout, edited by Harry Cholmondely-Pennell and published in 1885. Featuring a new Introduction by David Burnett. Apart from his legendary prowess as a caster and salmon fisher, Major Traherne is revered among expert fly-tyers as the greatest artist who ever tied a feather to a hook. Traherne was persuaded to contribute this essay to the volume on Salmon and Trout Fishing in the Badminton Library series. To honour this exceptional fisherman, described by Marston in The Fishing Gazette (1901) as "...one of the best salmon anglers and most genial of men", we have reproduced this text, including the Kelson fly section (whichhas some additional patterns by Farlow) to make a unique book. This de luxe edition gives a unique opportunity to possess a superbly tied Traherne classic - the "Fra Diavolo" - one of the most beautiful salmon flies ever created, which is set into the inside front cover. It was no less an authority than George Kelson who commended Major Traherne's salmon patterns as the finest. This lovely volume in its leather binding displays the queen of them all, tied by Frank Myhre Hansen.
