Wide-ranging advice on pheasants, grouse, partridges, woodcock, rabbits, rats, traps and trapping, nets and netting, ferrets and ferreting, "poaching and how it is done", rough shooting, warrens and rabbit farming, retrievers, "recipes for diseases in dogs" and sections on cats, stoats, weasels and rats. The author is given on the title-page as Colonel E.C.C. Hartopp. This is Edmund Charles Cradock-Hartopp, Lieut-Col, 7th King's Royal Rifles, late of the Rifle Brigade. However, the preface of the book is signed Edmund Charles L. Hartopp.
