This book, "written specifically for the bird shooter, could hardly come at a better time; soon after the implementation of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which removed thirteen species from the UK quarry lists. [The author] has compiled detailed accounts of thirty-three species on the list; not only are all the quarry species of gamebird, geese, ducks and waders included, but also the 'pest' birds, such as woodpigeon, feral pigeon, and the crow family. He concentrates on those aspects which are of particular interest to the shooter: identification; movements; behaviour; the law; feeding habits, and cooking the bag. There is also information on each species' history, range and distribution,habitat, voice, breeding and population, plus a bold look at the future prospects of each bird.
