THE ANGLER'S SOUVENIR. By P. Fisher. A New Edition. Edited by G. Christopher Davies. With illustrations by Beckwith and Topham.
(1835) 1886 new (third) edition. 4to (180 x 220mm). Pp311. Engraved frontispiece, title-page and 31 copper-engraved plates, woodcut page borders. Binding A. Green cloth, spine and upper board titled in gilt, gilt vignette of a pile of fish on upper board, bevelled edges, top edge gilt, patterned end-papers, tissue guards. The engraved frontispiece, title-page and plates are printed on India paper, and tipped in (pasted onto the stiff paper pages).
A nice collection of Nineteenth Century angling anecdotes and essays - from Ellesmere pike to Highland salmon. Despite the assertion in the Supplement to Bibliotheca Piscatoria that this edition was limited to 250 copies, I suspect that the issue in green cloth was not limited, and that this referred only to the vellum-bound issue.
