THE ANGLER'S BEDSIDE BOOK. Edited by Maurice Wiggin.
1965 1st edition. 8vo (155 x 230mm). Pp287. B/w photographs, line illustrations by Will Nickless. Green cloth, spine titled in gilt.
This is not an anthology of previously published material, but is a collection of original writing, specially commissioned from some of the liveliest and most knowledgeable angling authors of the period. The 1960s was a key period in angling literature, and Maurice Wiggin, the compiler, brings together the best of the new writers of the day: Bernard Venables, Dick Walker, Fred J. Taylor, Oliver Kite, C.V. Hancock, Jack Hargreaves and Frank Sawyer are among the twenty-six contributors. Hugh Falkus's evocative short story, "The Sea Trout," made its first appearance here, as did C.V. Hancock's well-known essay, "The Land of Teme and Gleam".
