THE ANGLER'S ENGLAND. By Patrick Chalmers. THE ENGLISH SCENE SERIES VOLUME 5.

1938 1st edition. 8vo (140 x 210mm). Pp254 + 1 page ad. B&w photograph plates, patterned end-papers. Binding A. Grey patterned cloth backed with green cloth, spine titled in gilt.

Beautifully written essays on different aspects of angling in England. Walton, angling in Shakespeare, the Norfolk Broads, angling in art, angling books, sea fishing, coarse and game fishing. In his chapter, The Bookshelf Aspect, he discusses not only angling literature, but also anging in literature, quoting angling passages from a number of Victorian novels. Mr Hampton evidently didn't feel it necessary to include these in his bibliography, so neither, I think, will I. Volume 5 of The English Scene Series - series editor Patrick Chalmers.
