THE ANGLER'S GUIDE, being a complete practical treatise on angling: containing the whole art of trolling, bottom-fishing, fly-fishing, and trimmer-angling, founded on forty years' practice and observation... By T.F. Salter, Gent. Second edition.
(1814) 1815 2nd edition. 8vo (135 x 211mm). Ppxxxii,317,i. Ten engraved plates including one folding, six copper engravings of fish, text engravings. Later dark brown half-leather over marbled boards, spine titled and decorated in gilt.
"...Second edition. With very considerable additions, local descriptions, glossary of technical terms, and index. Illustrated with wood engravings". "The rapid sale of the first edition of the Angler's Guide, and the approbation of its plan, expressed by many experienced anglers, have induced me to bestow considerable pains in preparing this second edition for the press; in which will be found much additional information on the natural history and habits of fish, the making of pastes, preserving baits, etc., etc". (From the author's preface). The contents page of this edition calls for a list of hooks (page xxxiii) and a list of engravings (page xxxiv). These are not present, however, other copies examined also lack them, so these pages were probably never bound in. All plates are present including the two maps, one folding, and the six copper engravings of fish at the rear of the book by R. Carpenter after C. Hardy. As in other copies, the index pagination has been misprinted as 208-217 rather than 308-317.
