THE ANGLING TIMES BOOK OF THE SEVERN. By Ken Cope.
1979 1st edition. 8vo (140 x 220mm). Pp191. B/w photographs and illustrations, maps. Green boards, spine titled in gilt.
A very comprehensive guide to the fishing on Britain's longest river. All aspects are covered: the river itself in normal and flood conditions, the appropriate tackle and bait, match fishing conditions, the behavioural peculiarites of the fish to be caught (thirteen species - from barbel to trout), descriptions of the whole river from Llanidloes to Gloucester broken down into fifteen stretches, each with a map showing access, and, finally, appendices with particulars about licenses and all the relevant clubs and associations of the era. Whilst some information is dated, the book remains a very useful guide to this day.
