BROWN TROUT FISHING IN IRELAND.

THE ART OF WORM-FISHING: A PRACTICAL TREATISE ON CLEAR-WATER WORMING. By Alexander Mackie, M.A.

1912 1st edition. Small 8vo (135 x 192mm). Ppxii,116. B/w line drawings. Binding B - Textured green cloth, upper board and spine titled in yellow.

"In certain aristocratic circles there exists a strong prejudice against all forms of worm fishing. It is sneered at as a plebian sport unworthy of the gentleman angler." Mackie goes on to make the case for the worm, fished on a Stewart or Pennell tackle, in the thin waters of summer on the hill burn and the lowland brook. Based on Scottish waters (several chapters had previously appeared in the Aberdeen Free Press and the Scottish Field) this first treatise on the clear water upstream worm owes much to W.C. Stewart.
