THE BAZ-NAMA-YI NASIRI: A PERSIAN TREATISE ON FALCONRY. Translated by Lieut.-Colonel D.C. Phillott.
(1908) ND (2002) new edition. Large 8vo (171 x 257mm). Ppxxiv,195. Tipped-in colour plate, b/w photographs and ills, extra plate loosely inserted, pictorial end-papers. Green cloth, spine titled in gilt, gilt falcon on upper board.
Written in 1868 by Taymur Mirza, a Persian prince, and later reprinted in India. This new edition is limited to 250 numbered copies, 50 of which are printed on tan-coloured hemp paper. The illustrations, including the dust-wrapper plate and the new extra colour plate, are tipped in by hand. The end-paper illustrations are the work of the editor, Kenyon Gibson. Loosely inserted is a photograph, believed to be of Taymur Mirza and his sons. It has a new foreword by Lt. Col. S. Kent Carnie, curator of the Archives of American Falconry. The binding style is unorthodox. Rather than consisting of folded signatures, as is usual, this book consists of a block of single sheets, stabbed and sewn. It forms an entirely adequate and strong binding although the sewing is sometimes visible when the book is fully open. This is the first of a set of three volumes on Eastern falconry published by the Eryr Press.
