This book contains "illustrations and brief descriptions of the commoner mammals of India. They are based mainly on the observations of sportsmen and naturalists who have contributed to the pages of the journal of the [Bombay Natural History] Society during the past 50 years, and whose writings have added much to the sum of knowledge of the Natural History of India." In this second edition, amongst other revisions, nomenclature was brought up to date and a chapter on marine mammals added.
