In this edition of The Book Of The Dry Fly we have not included any illustrations of the artificial flies used in this branch of angling. The plates of artificial flies are useless to the dry-fly angler; indeed, the exact shaded and whole dressing of these flies is constantly being changed". There is a one colour plate of relevant natural insects, by Edward Neale, and seven of paintings in colour of the Rivers Avon (Wiltshire), Test, Itchen, Whitewater, Loddon, Darenth and Derbyshire Wye, by "well-known artists". 1500 copies of this edition were printed (Inman).
