Published as part of Cassell's River series. Good on topography and social history, but very little on angling. The River Avon "...is full of character and passes through some of the most interesting countryside in the south. Mr Vesey-Fitzgerald follows its course on foot as it journeys through Amesbury, Salisbury, Downton, Fordingbridge, Ringwood, and Christchurch to the sea. The scene (not, of course, excluding the animal life) is described with all the accuracy of the trained observer, and the author's intimate acquaintance with this part of the country enables him to seek out, comment on, and discuss at length all the many uniquely interesting places and things he comes across on his river walk".
