"...Together with the Catalogue of Duplicates. Sold April 25, 1906 by The Merwin-Clayton Sales Company." This is a facsimile reprint of the three volumes of the 1909 sale catalogues, and the 1906 Catalogue of the Duplicates. It begins with the original introductory essay by Henry Thorpe ("Walton"). Heckscher's collection was the second largest of its type in the United States, spanning the period from Dame Juliana to his own time. It was particularly strong on Walton's Complete Angler, numerous editions of which are represented here. Each is included with its original title page and a marginal hand-written note of the price realised by each lot, as well as a figure for the grand total on each final page. "We have chosen this work as the third in our series of Reprints of Sporting Bibliographies because of its use as an important reference tool for both British and American angling book collectors, librarians, and dealers. [Goodspeed] describes this catalogue as follows: 'The catalogue [of Heckscher's] collection, which existed in manuscript, was not printed during his lifetime, but when his books were sold by auction ...it was printed for use at the sale. By a foresight for which we have perhaps to thank the auctioneers, the collations of each volume were given, making the catalogue of permanent reference value." 250 copies of this facsimile edition were printed, as well as a further ten de luxe copies. Parts I and II deal with angling books, Part III with 'fisheries, sporting, duelling, ornithology, miscellaneous," and the fourth part is the catalogue of duplicate books from Heckscher's collection which were sold by auction in 1906.
