THE NATURAL TROUT FLY AND ITS IMITATION: BEING AN ANGLER'S RECORD OF INSECTS SEEN AT THE WATERSIDE AND THE METHOD OF TYING THEIR FLIES. By Leonard West. Second edition, revised and enlarged.

(1912) 1921 2nd edition. 4to (185 x 250mm). Pp163. 13 colour plates and 5 b/w plates. Brown buckram, titled in gilt on spine and upper board.

"Highly original and excellent, but some of the flies, such as Iron Blues, Blue Winged Olive and Grannon are omitted. Unfortunately, West, instead of accepting the well known entomological names of the insects described, invented an entirely new nomenclature. He believed that too many anglers devoted too much attention to Ephemeroptera and not nearly sufficient to other insects eaten by the trout. The five illustrations are the author's own work". (Hampton). A classic period piece for every fly-tyer and for all trout fishers with an interest in the development of fly-fishing entomology. Hampton states that this edition was limited to 1500 copies.
