THE OBSERVER'S BOOK OF BRITISH BIRDS' EGGS. Compiled by G. Evans.
1954 1st edition. 12mo (95 x 145mm). Pp217. Colour paintings of eggs, b/w line drawings. Tan illustrations in full natural colour and 26 in outline by H. D. Swain". This excellent companion volume to the Observer's Book of Birds gives concise notes on each species, with details of eggs, nests, and nest sites. The first edition has 'British' in the title. It "was short-lived, and was revised in the same year, with tinted illustrations for pale or unmarked eggs in place of the original crude outlines. The lithographed illustrations were very fine, and this was a popular title". (Marren and Carter).
