THE OPEN-AIR BOY. By The Rev. G.M.A. Hewett, M.A., of Winchester College.
(1901) 1928 2nd UK edition. Small 8vo (125 x 192mm). xii pp + 214 pp. Illustrated with a b/w photograph frontispiece and with line drawings. Green cloth, spine and upper board titled in gilt.
A book of countryside pursuits for boys with much on angling. "Mr. G.M.A. Hewett, as the original of "The Open-Air Boy," must have been born with the instincts of a savage. And this trait must have been encouraged, for he is the prototype of that Englishman who, when he wakes, says "What shall I kill to-day?" This killing instinct if carried too far engenders cruelty". Review in The New York Times, Nov 1, 1902. This edition omits the engaging colour plates of the first edition. This 2nd edition includes an obituary of the author by A.G. Bather.
