THE RIVERS AND STREAMS OF ENGLAND. By A.G. Bradley. 1985 1st Bracken books edition.
(1909) 1985 new edition. Large 8vo (155 x 228mm). Ppxiv,288. 75 colour plates by Sutton Palmer, map. Blue boards, spine titled in gilt. A facsimile of the 1st edition.
"Few places in England are very far from water. Being a small country in a small island kingdom, its waters are beckoned by the sea from every corner and in every direction, through every kind of landscape, twisting and turning, tumbling brisk and nimble over rocks, flowing in stately grandeur through broad fields, winding quietly past small villages, sliding deep and silent through ancient towns." This is an interesting description of the rivers of England, in groups according to their drainage basins. Well worth a read to get an idea of how they all interrelate, with something of their history and the towns and villages on their banks. Many good colour plates of paintings.
