The flies are divided into three main varieties - general patterns, imitative patterns and lures - and in addition to hints on tying the flies the author includes notes on their evolution, and describes how to fish [them] most effectively". Sixty patterns are described individually in detail and a recipe given for each. Colour photographs of all the flies appear in a section of colour plates.
